Post assembly, on a very windy Friday 25 September, the group walked to nearby Dovehouse Square. As I collected and binned the rubbish, what struck the group was that, from the outset, the Green looked rubbish-free; however, on closer inspection, there was a huge concentration of small-scale rubbish; especially, bottle caps, the ends of chocolate wrappers and cigarette butts!
As we discussed our observations, the pupils created a tally chart of the materials seen and estimated, and the number of items collected and recorded plus any personal observations.
During our next meeting, we will analyse the results and create graphs that help us to visualise what the amount/type of rubbish says about our local area and what the data can tell us about initiatives to support a cleaner Chelsea.
The Eco Development Group were one of the 17,097 clean-ups that took place.
