Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

Enriching Learning

When a child joins our Early Years Foundation Stage, they follow a practical and enriching learning experience tailored to and guided by each child’s choices and interests.

The EYFS profile assessment is underpinned by an understanding that language is central to our sense of identity and community whilst also recognising values and linguistic diversity.

As pupils start their EYFS at various levels in academic ability and maturity, we cater to each individual’s needs within every area of the curriculum, building on their current understanding and experiences. Children are given the opportunity to explore and investigate in free-play situations alongside their more formal teaching. Forest School provides children with the indoor provision with an outdoor environment, developing independence, improving language skills, decision making and raising self-esteem through small but achievable tasks.

The EYFS curriculum is based on four principles:

Positive relationships
Enabling Environments
Learning and development
Communication and language
Physical development
Personal, social and emotional development

Four specific areas of learning:

Literacy
Maths
Understanding of the world
Expressive art and design
