At The Hampshire School Chelsea, the arts and music form a key part of the curriculum supporting the development of all-round skills from a young age.

The Hampshire School Chelsea is a school rooted in the performing arts. With its extraordinary heritage as a school founded by the celebrated acting dynasty of the Hampshire family, performing arts continue to play a meaningful role at the school in nurturing key life and creative skills. This is achieved through our timetabled drama, music and singing lessons, poetry recitals, music concerts and Chelsea Ballet lessons. In addition to class assemblies, our musicians perform at our Remembrance Service, Harvest Festival service, music and drama productions and the whole school community Carol Service.

Through the performing arts programme at The Hampshire School Chelsea, the children learn to collaborate and work together as a team towards a shared performance goal in which each child's individual journey of development is showcased. Perhaps most importantly, these opportunities also allow our children to be playful and creative, to explore their curiosity, try out new things, express their feelings and emotions through movement and drama and embrace challenges as opportunities across the breadth of the curriculum.

It will be of no surprise to parents that children who enjoy opportunities to engage in a breadth of co-curricular and curricular activities tend to demonstrate enhanced academic performance as they navigate their way through strategies for improvement and work hard to master new challenges.

We are fortunate to have 11 visiting music teachers with specialist skills who offer 1-1 instrumental tuition on a range of instruments as well as singing lessons. This is in addition to our core music curriculum delivered by the Director of Music.  Each pupil learning a musical instrument with one of our visiting music teachers receives an individual 30 minute lesson per week. The music lessons work alongside the academic timetable.

If a child has a particular interest or aptitude for wanting to learn an instrument not immediately available at The Hampshire School Chelsea, we will do our best to organise a teacher!

To register your child for music lessons at School, please fill in the Music Lessons Booking form and send to Miss Doyle n.doyle@thehampshireschoolchelsea.co.uk or hand deliver at Reception.
