Monologues
In drama, Year 5 selected monologues and used exercises rooted in the Meisner Technique, in order to create truthful characters with objectives, entitlement and stakes. They have explored line-learning methods, and have also developed their improvisation skills and confidence by conducting and partaking in imaginary television interviews as their characters. We have been so impressed with their work and are delighted to share both Karim and Derin’s (both Year 5) performances from Roald Dahl’s Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. Derin performed as the spoilt Veruca Salt and Karim performed as Charlie.
English Speaking Board
Ms Warner and Miss King are delighted to announce that the English and Drama departments are implementing a new initiative of accredited high quality speech and language qualifications for all pupils in Years 2 - 8 with the English Speaking Board.
This will involve all pupils preparing a talk about a hobby or favourite interest, reciting a poem, monologue or speech, reading a passage from a book of their choosing and a group assessment based on listening and answering questions. This initiative aims to promote clear communication and recognise the potential of all. There will be a formal exam with an external assessor. This is a really exciting addition to the curriculum at The Hampshire School Chelsea and we look forward to seeing the pupils excel.
