Poetry Competition judged by Tom Foolery

Pandemic Poet Tomos Roberts (TomFoolery), famous for his viral poem, “The Great Realisation”, was wowed by aspiring poets at The Hampshire School Chelsea as he judged the school’s annual poetry competition on Friday 30 April.

Excited pupils from Nursery to Year 8 had composed performance poems and poetry themed around hope, and had been busy practicing and rehearsing ahead of the competition. Finalists from each year group recited their poems in front of peers, teachers, and parents, and winners were selected by the very special guest.

The pupils were deeply inspired by Tomos, learning what resilience and excellence he has shown in his career to date. Before the pandemic, Tomos used to perform his poetry to crowds in London. Now, a year to the date after his greatest piece went viral, his work is well-known around the world and has been viewed tens of millions of times online. 

Proud parents were invited to enjoy the event safely, watching the competition unfold via a live stream.

Head, Dr Pamela Edmonds said:

“It was wonderful to invite Tomos to The Hampshire School Chelsea. Tomos is an inspirational role model for all of our children in the way in which he exudes confidence and creativity in his work. We are thrilled to have him here today as our guest judge.” 

Tomos Roberts said: 

“I feel incredibly lucky to be able to work on doing the thing that I love the most and It's tremendously rewarding to be able to come into The Hampshire School Chelsea today and be able to participate in activities such as this.”
