As part of their historical studies, Year 7 travelled to Battle Abbey on the south coast. At this very spot in the year 1066, the armies of King Harold and William the Conqueror clashed at the Battle of Hastings. After visiting the museum and testing the true weight of armour, pupils stood on the site where this decisive struggle was fought over England’s future, and tried to imagine what it must have been like on the day. Having taken time to appreciate the stunning views and absorb the now-hushed atmosphere of the field, the tour ended with a whole group re-enactment, to bring the landmark events of 1066 more vividly to life.
