‘We should be remembered for the things we do. The things we do are the most important things of all. They are more important than what we say or what we look like. The things we do outlast our mortality.’ RJ Palacio
This week’s Remembrance Service at St. Luke’s Church Chelsea was a special occasion. It was a moving reminder of how, on the eleventh day, of the eleventh month, our community united to pay respect and to honour the courage and devotion of the brave men and women who have made the supreme sacrifice of dying for their country.
The tone was set at the very start by Year Six in a moving depiction of the inner thoughts of one soldier’s tragic experience of life at war. This was followed by two beautifully delivered poems. Samara, our Headgirl, reminded us of the oft-forgotten efforts of the Women’s Land Army and James, our Headboy, movingly compared soldiers from the Great War to fallen leaves from a tree.
Alongside the core value messages from our guest speaker, Captain Vickers of the Royal Marines, the emotive performance of ‘Make Me A Channel of Your Peace’ lead to the soul-stirring conclusion of the Last Post and the inner reflection of the two minute silence.
I would like to thank the staff for their support and hard work in the lead up to this event and to specifically highlight the wonderful conduct of our pupils who behaved impeccably and showed genuine respect for the solemn nature of this commemorative event.
