Inspire Maths in Year 1

Inspire Maths in Year 1

Throughout the Autumn term, Year 1 have been following The Hampshire School Chelsea’s newly implemented Inspire Maths curriculum. The comprehensive scheme of work has already made such a difference to pupils’ understanding of important principles that are the foundation of becoming fully numerate.

This week, Year 1 have been using the mathematics resources (known within Education as ‘manipulatives’) to explore the decimal monetary system in the UK. Together with classic pretend money, other manipulatives such as Numicon and even rubber dinosaurs have reinforced pupils’ ability to calculate with pounds Sterling and pence, with children then transferring their thinking with the concrete models to writing numerals on the page.

Look out for our budding bankers in the very near future!
