Some of the pupils in Year 6 took part in Collaborative Learning Day together with other schools from the Bellevue Group where the purpose of the experience was to raise the awareness of sustainability. This project was part of S.T.E.A.M where the pupils were encouraged to solve problems through hands-on learning and activities using their knowledge of science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. The task for the day was to design and create a physical interface that interacted with a computer program. The Year 6 pupils chose recycling as their topic and created a scratch game that requires players to collect waste to earn points, with every 5 points earned, it rewarded them with educational information on the topic. The game worked together with an interface combining a ‘makey makey’ controller and crocodile clips. The children enjoyed working as part of a team where they greatly benefited from collaborating with each other.
