Preparatory

Specialist subject teaching is increased in this section and children are prepared for transfer to their desired senior school.

The carefully structured programme of study is constantly updated in line with current educational developments with respect to the Independent Schools’ Examination Board Common Entrance syllabus, but also with due regard to the National Curriculum. Teaching methods promote high academic standards as well as the excitement and enjoyment of learning and independence of mind.

The children are frequently assessed, twice-yearly examinations and Common Entrance papers practised under examination conditions at 11+ and 13+. Assessments provide diagnostic insight into the strengths and weakness in a student’s ability to learn, as well as gives them the experience of the examination technique.

We encourage a sense of community and citizenship through our school council, and a system of prefects and monitors, which gives senior children opportunities to take extra responsibility within the school.
