It views linguistic and cultural diversity as an enriching experience for all members of the school and recognises the diverse needs of children for whom English is an additional language. Special Educational Needs (SEN)
We have high expectations of both our children and staff. We are proud of our multicultural community, as we believe it enriches our school. We believe that every child should be treated as an individual, whatever their gender, race, faith, ability, nationality or age.
- We aim for each child to achieve their academic potential and enjoy learning. Each child’s needs are supported so that they may feel happy, confident and valued.
- We aim to teach a broad range of subjects to a high standard.
- We aim to work in partnership with parents/carers to achieve the best outcomes for the child and by supporting and providing development opportunities for our staff, work together as an effective team.
MAGT: More Able, Gifted and Talented
The Hampshire School, Chelsea aims to ensure that no child is left behind.
The gifted or talented child is catered for in an increasing number of exciting ways at our school. Children who are identified as MAGT receive personalised provision across the curriculum within the classroom environment. Additionally they have access to extracurricular extension, through After School Programmes, Master Classes and Signposting to outside agencies.
Who are MAGT children?
Gifted and talented learners are defined those who have one or more abilities developed to a level significantly ahead of their year group (or with the potential to develop those abilities).
'Gifted' describes learners who have the ability to excel academically in one or more subjects such as English, Science, History, Geography and Maths. At The Hampshire School, Chelsea these lessons have planned MAGT activities that extend the child through independent learning.
'Talented' describes learners who have the ability to excel in practical skills such as sport, leadership, artistic performance, or in an applied skill. All Art, PE and Music lessons have differentiated learning for MAGT, so that the child's talent can be nurtured and extended
How are children identified as MAGT?
The Hampshire School, Chelsea uses a variety of sources to identify the gifted or talented child:
- Assessment data in core subjects (English, Maths and Science)
- Common Entrance Examination data
- Teacher/ Head of Subject assessment in other subjects – students are identified in subject areas against specific criteria
- Teacher referral Observations in lessons
- Outside referral (Educational Psychologist reports, etc)
