Pastoral Care

In order to embrace the challenges life presents to them, we are determined that out pupils will become resilient, resourceful and mature young people.

We believe in the enormous potential of each child. Therefore it is our aim that these qualities may be awakened and gradually developed through the continual encouragement and example set by the teachers who lead them.

Moreover, our teachers are highly attuned to the emotional needs of our children, given the school its warm and friendly character. The Hampshire School, Chelsea is a happy place to work and creativity for children and staff alike because of the strong relationships we build with one another. We value every member of our school community and promote traditional values of courtesy, kindness, respect, tolerance and modesty.

Visitors often notice the calm confidence and good manners of our children and they comment on the wonderful feel of the school.

We have a positive approach to discipline, seeking to reward good conduct.

Our children are encouraged to work together and to look after one another. Children are placed in one of four Houses. Every day, they strive to earn House Points by their individual efforts in and out of the classroom. There is a fierce competition between the Houses to fly their colours at School Assembly each week. It is regarded as a great honour to be a member of the winning House at the end of each term.

What makes the House system particularly enjoyable and beneficial is the sense of commitment and support the children find in the school. Year 6, 7 and 8 are able to take on increased responsibilities and the younger children benefit from relationships with older children whom they admire. Whether working individually, in pairs or teams, our pupils support one another and enjoy each other's company.

We also seek to build the children’ sense of community through our programme of charitable giving. We foster links with a local charity as well as encouraging the children to research and give presentations on national and international charities they themselves choose to support.
