At preparatory school, our pupils expand on their academic and holistic learning as they prepare for the best destination senior schools at the end of Key Stage 3.
The carefully structured programme of study is constantly updated in line with current educational developments with respect to the Independent Schools’ Examination Board Common Entrance syllabus, but also with due regard to the National Curriculum.
Teaching methods promote high academic standards as well as the excitement and enjoyment of learning, and independence of mind. The children are frequently assessed, with twice-yearly examinations and Common Entrance papers practised under examination conditions at 11+ and 13+. Assessments provide diagnostic insight into the strengths and weakness in a pupil’s ability to learn, as well as giving pupils experience in examination technique.
Leadership skills and responsibility
We encourage community and citizenship at The Hampshire School. Preparatory pupils learn excellent leadership skills as part of our school council and by becoming prefects and monitors. These roles give our senior children the chance to develop real management and responsibility abilities.
