It is an exciting time for the mathematics department here at the Hampshire School Chelsea, with the implementation of the outstanding ‘Inspire Maths’ curriculum across the pre-preparatory school. It is, without doubt, a curriculum that stands up to academic scrutiny and is the only mathematics curriculum proven by extensive research in the field to enhance pupil performance. You may have heard much about the successes of the Singapore approach to mathematics and we wholeheartedly support this here at The Hampshire School Chelsea.

The curriculum is thorough and delivers challenging academic content to stretch our pupils, with the ultimate goal being to achieve mastery in the subject at a younger age. Whilst preparing them for the rigours of their future education, the Inspire Maths approach endorses mathematics teaching that is engaging and ‘hands on’, with equipment (you may already know something about concrete resources) readily available each lesson to guide each pupil in their learning in a way that is best suited to them.

Please do ask your child’s Form Tutor about their learning and how we are making mathematics an engaging and inspiring subject. Our Inspire Maths curriculum evening was a real success, demonstrating many of the techniques of the approach that can be used both at school and in pupils’ all important homework.
