Bright, young things

In art lessons this term, pupils are exploring the art of colour. Nursery and Reception pupils became colour detectives as they looked into their mirrors before painting their self-portraits. Years One and Two have been learning how to mix secondary colours using the three primary colours. They practised their brushstroke skills in vivid paintings of their initials, inspired by the artist Jasper Johns. Years Three and Four created their own colour wheels titled 'Curiosity' and will be creating their own Kandinsky inspired circles. Years Five and Six experimented to see how they could mix the three primary colours effectively in order to create different shades and tones. Finally, Years Seven and Eight used oil pastels to create beautiful studies of Georgia O’Keefe's close up, large scale flowers. Next week all pupils will be participating in a local art competition, using mixed media to create pictures of a local heritage building, Argyll House that once belonged to the fourth Duke of Argyll.
