Head of English teacher wins Louis de Bernières Fiction Prize

04 January 2017

We are delighted to announce that Miss Lisa Dhesi (Head of English teacher) has recently won the inaugural Louis de Bernières Fiction Prize at University of Cambridge with her 3,000 word short story, The Return. Her entry, is about a dysfunctional family and was taken from her Masters dissertation.

Miss Lisa was presented with the award by Mr de Bernières, who compared her to “a young Bret Easton Ellis” during the ceremony.

As a result of her success, she is now thinking about writing professionally, having being encouraged to do so by the University and by de Bernières himself.

Despite her success, and approaches from agents, she has no intention of taking up writing full-time.

“I just love teaching so that is very much my priority at the moment,” Miss Lisa commented.

Our Headmaster Mr Brennan had this to say, “To know that our children are being taught by teachers of this calibre ensures that we are on the correct path. Seeking the best talent and then nurturing it is what sustains the continued growth of The Hampshire School.
